Places in the World

There are a wide variety of governments in the world of Avern, and many different leaders. Check out some of the various things that are in the continent and the islands around it. These things are current as of the end of the Legacy of the Phoenix series.

Countries

Darna

Government: Hereditary Monarchy
Flag: A rampant unicorn with laurels on a field of dark purple.
Capital: Kingshome
Landmarks: Delia’s Wood, Delia’s Lake
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: King Jaxon Brevace

Notes: The country of Darna is generally a safe place for most people. The current king, Jaxon, does not appear to have his father's Xenophobic tendencies. His mother, Queen Delia, has stepped away and her whereabouts are currently unknown after the Phoenix Reunification Events. Some believe she is off adventuring with pirates, others believe she is dead and they are being lied to about her being around still.

Dwomer

Government: Constitutional Monarchy
Flag: Dark blue with a semicircle of orange with a crown in the center
Capital: Kalpamoor
Landmarks: None
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Fastem Dulope

Notes: Dwomer does not involve itself in other state's events. They are very insular with a lot of pride in their country. They have some adherents that are more nationalists, and there is movements for "racial purity" of humans, favoring those who look like the majority in Dwomer. These are typically lighter skinned, light haired, and dark eyed individuals.

Grua T'gara (Under Burning Fury Mountains)

Government: Elective Monarcy
Flag: Brown with a star in the upper left and a stone in the center
Capital: V'gama
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Ravsa t'Kalima
Current Leaders: Queen Eldana

Notes: Like their dwarven neighbors, the Ravsa tend to have a low birthrate. They keep to themselves mostly, and have a very insular community. They rarely accept outsiders, and have distinct clans. They practice diverse breeding, though, and typically have arranged marriages throughout the community to keep genetic diversity at the highest point possible due to their infrequent child births.

Grumach (The Dwarvan Nation Under the Mountain)

Government: Hereditary Monarchy
Flag: Deep brown background with a mountain and crown withing a partial circle.
Capital: Rustume (under Dwarven Rest)
Landmarks: Delia’s Wood, Delia’s Lake
Residents: Dwarves
Current Leaders: King Boden Stormwatch

Notes: Dwarves have a low birth rate, leading to many avoiding war. They maintain grudging relations with the Noran, thought there are often skirmishes between them, there has not be an outright war...yet.

Holiess T'me (Under the Wildlands)

Government: Thocracy
Flag: Black with a star in the upper left and a golem with a line under it in white.
Capital: V'shera
Landmarks: Unknonw
Residents: Noran t'Kalima
Current Leaders: High Priestess Mala Swiftriver

Notes: Noran typically stay to themselves, though they have an irrational hatred of other species, mostly stemming from the idea that other species hate them. This has been passed down for generations due to the issues they've had among the other elves.

Kranos

Government: Anarchy/Tribalism
Flag: Unknown
Capital: None/Unknown
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Multiple

Notes: Kranos is a mystery to most people on Avern. It is largely unexplored by most people, and those that have gone there never return.

Lerestis T'mis (Anaset Forest)

Government: Tribalism
Flag: Green background with a black star and a leaf.
Capital: V'isterna
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Whispara t'Kalima
Current Leaders: Multiple

Notes: The Air-kin elves are extremely xenophobic, and walking into their forest is considered a death sentence. Even more rare are those that leave the forest due to the strict law that those that leave are never welcomed back.

Lineria

Government: Hereditary Monoarchy
Flag: A dark red background with a rampant lion
Capital: Meitan's Rest
Landmarks: King's Lake, Queen's Delta, Cliffs of Chaos, Sweetwood
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Queen Sealla

Notes: With the current state of Lineria, none may enter or leave due to the magical barriers. King Meitan, Sealla and Keiara's father, was a just man who ruled with fairness. It is unknown what will happen to the large kingdom of Lineria at this point.

Luxen

Government: Aristocracy
Flag: Dark purple with an large emerald
Capital: Avonic
Landmarks: Whispering Grove
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Canvek Newhope

Notes: Luxen is a surprisingly well run country with a thriving, and wealthy, population due to the expansive gem mining in the area, in particular the Luxenite Emeralds. They are beyond a doubt the finest gems in the world, prized even more than diamonds and renowned for their clarity and beauty. There are also ruby, sapphire, and diamond mining areas, though none as large as the Avonic Emerald mine.

Mix T'nexus (San T'shi)

Government: Tribalism
Flag: Black background with a red star in the upper left and a burning circle.
Capital: V'resta
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Ruana t'Kalima, Wraiths
Current Leaders: Multiple

Notes: Not much is known of the Fire-kin elves as they are in the harsh environment of the desert. They have a good relationship with their Wraith neighbors, who do not have a collective government of their own. They have allowed the Wraiths to mix with their own people, and the community tends to take care of each other.

Perta

Government: Liberal Democracy
Flag: Tan with a stack of iron bars
Capital: Celestistic
Landmarks: Celese Iron Mine
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Serama Intenica

Notes: Mining is the primary occupation in Perta. The Celes Iron Mine spans most the country, and there are several entrances used for it. There are other metals found in the area, however, none are as plentiful as the iron. The government, however, is teetering. Under duress from other countries, they are starting to suffer due to increased demand and decreased workers due to less funding from other countries.

Phomean

Government: Democratic Republic
Flag: A red background with a phoenix
Capital: Childers
Landmarks: Frozen Coast, Phoenix Tear Lake
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: President Samus Harmett

Notes: Phomean in recent years has become more militant in protection of their country, mostly in response to other kingdoms attempting to take over or destroy them from within. Recent sabotage is contributed to other areas and it is wondered if someone has infiltrated their government.

Republic of Namas

Government: Constitutional Republic
Flag: Top red, bottom green with a dove carrying a chain that is breaking
Capital: Vera
Landmarks: None
Residents: Humans, Halifast
Current Leaders: Eriana Secretkeeper

Notes: There are very few who are unwelcome in the Republic of Namas. They are known as a sanctuary state, and often welcome those escaping from tyranny. They are populated by most of the Halifast on the continent, and Eriana, while human, has her first advisor who is a Halifast.

Ruark

Government: Social Democracy
Flag: Sea green background with open clamshell with pearl in the center
Capital: Chavnerises
Landmarks: Quiet Forest
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Vrayne Mistwalker

Notes: The primary exports for Ruark are pearls. The area along the south sea is a breeding ground for the extremely pearl likely vest clams. Vest clams have about a fifty percent chance of producing a pearl in their short life, and there are thousands to be found at a given time along the shore and in the area's sand banks. While fishing is part of their industries, nothing compares to the pearl production. As such, it is strictly forbidden to gather pearls without a license.

Sern T'sal

Government: Theocracy
Flag: Yello background with a rising sun and wind under it and a black star in the upper left.
Capital: V'an
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Lumen t'Kalima
Current Leaders: Eshar Lightsong

Notes: There are no known excursions to Sern T'Sal that have been able to bring back any information. No one that goes toward the island returns. It is unknown if it is even possible to sail across to the island or if they simply stay once they arrive.

Vestern

Government: Parliamentary Republic
Flag: Teal background with a leaping dolphin
Capital: Seterest
Landmarks: None
Residents: Humans
Current Leaders: Maxim Trustblooded

Notes: Known mostly for the large dolphin pods that frequent the shores, Vestern is a fishing country, depending on their large ship production yard and their fishing enterprises. Interior areas of their country process the necessary goods needed for production, most especially logging and wood preparation for ship-building.

Zeri T'ves

Government: Unknown
Flag: Dark green background with a white star in the upper left and a water drop in the center
Capital: V'amin
Landmarks: Unknown
Residents: Marin t'Kalima
Current Leaders: Unknown

Notes: Due to the difficulty getting to Zeri T'ves, most people in Avern know very little of the water-kin elves. They are not necessarily unwelcoming, but they have little respect for those who cannot navigate the waters surrounding their island.

Places of Interest

The Forge

Location: The Cliffs of Chaos
Purpose: The Forge is a creation of the Council of Nine. It was intended, in the absence of the gods, to teach people with magic aptitude to use their powers and become people who could contribute to society as best they could. However, this has become warped in recent years. Now, people are rounded up by the Regulators as if they are criminals and dragged unwillingly to the Forge, where they remain, unheard from again.

Druid Home

Location: The Sikenwood in the Old Lands
Purpose: Druid Home is the base of the Earth Keepers, and like the Star Field, is kept secret. The location is carefully guarded, and while it is not completely hidden, it is accessible by portals mostly, though some intrepid souls do forge their way through the forest to get to the location as a test of skill. They exist in the depth of the thickest part of the Silkenwood, built among the tall trees that make that forest one of the thickest and home to the tallest, most ancient trees in all of Avern. Their treetop home is an average of two hundred feet in the air due to the height of the massive trees of the Silkenwood.

The Star Field

Location: Under the Silkenwood in the Old Lands
Purpose: The Star Field is the secret location of the Star Keepers where they train and keep safe people imbued with magic. They take care of them and teach them how to disguise themselves. They are in direct opposition to the Forge, and the only way to enter the compound, which lies underground, is through magic portals accessible by the people that know how to activate them.
